Presidential candidate and former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi yesterday said that the time for change is now.

While addressing his supporters yesterday evening at Nakivubo stadium Mbabazi said that; “With our society increasingly divided and militarised; with a government increasingly hostile to its own citizens; with the erosion of rule of law and the separation of powers; with our soldiers and police being forced to do things that violate their mandate to serve and to protect; with the rich getting richer and the poor simply becoming worse off: the time for change is now. With 64% of our youth unemployed and many more Ugandans underemployed; with corruption eating up this nation: the time for change is now! With our political culture so uncivilised: the time for change is now.”

Below is Mbabazi’s full nomination speech

November 3rd, 2015

Remarks by Rt. Hon. Amama Mbabazi upon His Nomination as Presidential Candidate.

My fellow citizens, my fellow Ugandans:

I accept your nomination with gratitude and humility. It is a great honour for me to stand on this podium today and address you, for the first time, as a Presidential Candidate.

In the coming weeks and months, I will rely on the support of a great number of people. Some of them are sitting behind me on the podium, others are sitting or standing in front me amongst the crowd. I would like to recognise and thank those who have accompanied me here: my nominator and proposer: Honourable Beatrice Anywar and Ms Rosette Nsonga; TDA party leaders: Ambassador Olara Otunnu of UPC, Honourable Norbert Mao of DP, Mr. Asuman Basalirwa of JEEMA, Honourable Beti Kamya of UFA, Dr. Dick Odur of PPP, Honourable Mike Mabike of SDP and Mr. Samusu Mugobansonga of CP; eminent persons: Owekitiibwa Mulwanyammuli Ssemwogerere, Honourable Steven Kaliba and Honourable Miria Mtembe. Representing my supporters are Ms. Lina Zedriga Waru, Honourable Chemaswet and Mr. Aliro Omara. Representing the youth: Ms. Cecilia Anyakoit and Mr. Adam Luzindana.

Here in the place of my wonderful wife and family are my daughter Rachel Ciconco Mbabazi and my sister Ms. Juliet Tumusiime Bagwowabo. Last, but not least, our Chief of Staff Ms. Solome Nakaweesi-Kayondo without whom, and together with her team, none of this would be possible.

Before us is the most wide-open race in our political history, one that I believe gives us the greatest chance to achieve a historical first in Uganda: peaceful transition of power. Indeed, this is what I seek: a change in government through peaceful means and a change in governance.

Unity

To look out at this gathering is to see a multitude that reflects the power and reach of the Go Forward message and movement. The gathering here today is a true union: for whilst we are not all the same, we are all in agreement. We mirror the rich cultural diversity of this nation (indeed some of us are from the north, the east, the west and the central regions, some are Muslim, others Christian; some of us are UPC, others DP, FDC and NRM and other political parties and from civil society) and we are all here because we recognise that Uganda is, once again, at a critical turning point in her history; because we know that the battle before us is not merely a clash of values, it is a battle for the future of our children and the very soul of this nation.

Transition

Peaceful change is no light matter, for it speaks to the stability and endurance of a nation and its systems when individuals die. For what is one man when we’re talking about systems, about the future, about an entire nations’ coming of age? What is the promise of an individual political agenda against the promise of a Uganda that works for everyone?

When individuals are permitted to stand in the way of this transition, when right and wrong is determined by powerful personalities instead of the law, then we put this country and the lives of our children at risk of great instability. Because individuals and personalities are temporary; but systems, strong institutions – these things last and they are at the heart of every strong and prosperous nation on earth.

What is Go Forward/what does it mean?

Indeed, this is our common purpose: to see Uganda become strong and prosperous and to make Uganda work for everyone. For the youth and for our children – who deserve a good quality education and who desperately need jobs; for the women – who desire not to be treated as second-class citizens but as full citizens with the right to an education, the right to a healthcare system where childbirth is not a pathway to the grave and the right to have their freedoms observed and upheld; for our farmers – who are the heart of our economy and who need to be empowered by the economic might of government and through restoration of cooperatives; for our ex-combatant soldiers in the North, in the East, in the Central and Western regions of Uganda, who need to be paid their retirement dues and to be better supported, better integrated into their social environments and re-skilled so they can easily find work; for the men and women who graduate from university and other tertiary institutions but end up spending twenty years of their lives unemployed or under employed when they could do so much more; for our diaspora, who are just as Ugandan as anyone else, who contribute so much to our economy and yet still don’t have the right to vote; for our minority groups who deserve to be protected by government rather than scorned for being a particular ethnicity, or holding to a particular belief; for all Ugandans.

Civility & change

The time for change is now!

With our society increasingly divided and militarised; with a government increasingly hostile to its own citizens; with the erosion of rule of law and the separation of powers; with our soldiers and police being forced to do things that violate their mandate to serve and to protect; with the rich getting richer and the poor simply becoming worse off: the time for change is now. With 64% of our youth unemployed and many more Ugandans underemployed; with corruption eating up this nation: the time for change is now! With our political culture so uncivilised: the time for change is now. The time to debate the worthiness of our ideas and the realism of our plans is now.

Now, is the right time to make major investments in people more than in buildings and weapons: the poor, the aged, the weak and the afflicted must be treated with respect and compassion and it must be our central aim to lift them out of poverty, sickness and despair, to make old age a time of ease of life and dignity. We must build a new society.

New Leadership

This is what “Go Forward” implies. This is exactly what, in its simplicity, it recognises: that it is our noble duty to do whatever we must to survive, to endure, to succeed. Our vision is to enhance the quality of life of our people. Our challenges are old (poverty, corruption, poor healthcare) but they are also new (globalisation, technological advancement). And so for this grueling endeavour, the endeavour to foster good governance and nation-wide prosperity, we need a new type of leadership. We need both managers and statesmen. We need both experience and freshness of ideas. Those who are more inclined to abuse rather than debate cannot be fit to be heads of state. Neither are those who spend all their time lamenting, instead of identifying problems and finding long-lasting solutions.

The work is not easy and it is not meant to be. It requires someone with the right cast of mind, someone with determination and tolerance; someone who is patient, who has the strength of will and can see the bigger picture. This change we need requires serious leadership and I am offering myself to see it through. I will draw upon my experience in the most important areas of government and governance: defence and security, law and order, diplomacy and public administration.

But then it will be time to hand over to the next generation of young Ugandans to lead the country. Indeed, my task will be to preside over the transition of power from one generation to the next. In the meantime, I will get our great nation fit for the future challenges that lie ahead.

(Leave the Past behind)

My name is Amama Mbabazi. Many of you have heard of me either in good terms or bad. I would like, for a moment, to tell you a bit about myself. I was born in Cocezo, Kabale: a place so deep in the valleys of the high mountains of Kigezi it is said even eagles are afraid to land. My mother was a farmer and a leader in the church. My father was a catechist, a lay reader and a canon. They were simple, modest people who instilled in us, their children, certain unshakeable values: to love hard work and discipline; to shun laziness, mediocrity, greed and entitlement; and, finally, to never forget the importance of our spirituality, as well as our relationships to both God and others.

I never betrayed these values as a young boy and I pledge to you, the Ugandan people, that I will not betray them now.

To every member of the Democratic Alliance and to all that embrace the idea of peaceful transition now: all of us here have walked distinct paths to come to this place; we may not always have agreed, but we share the same dreams, we have a common purpose: to build and secure a Uganda that works for everyone.

A new dawn is upon us and upon this our focus must rest. As Winston Churchill once said: “If we open a quarrel between the present and the past, we shall be in danger of losing the future”. Let us leave the quarrels of the past behind in favour of unity.

Let me say something else: the group of people that accompanied me here today do not comprise some new political party or organisation. These are people of different backgrounds who have answered the call to action I made on June 15th.

These are people who have realised that it doesn’t matter where or what you are from, here anyone can belong: Catholics, Protestants, Born-Agains’, Bahai’s, Muslims and Traditionalists; NRM, FDC, DP, UPC, JEEMA, PPP, CP, SDP. THE JUBILEE COALITION and many others. Ours is not a partisan political idea but a universally applicable one. For the act of going forward is one every person is familiar with. Everyday we all commit our lives to doing so, to growing older, to growing wiser, to daily becoming a better version of ourselves in order to survive and to succeed.

In life we have two choices and so it is in this campaign. We can choose to be governed by confusion, intimidation and bribery; we can choose to stay in one place, to wilt and to wither; or we can choose to move on to better things, to be governed by grace and common sense. In fewer words: to go forward.

I know you will make the second choice, the right choice. And I know, that with God’s help, we will prevail.

Thank you,

God bless you

God bless this Country, Uganda.

The South Korean Ambassador to Uganda Park Jong-Dae has asked Uganda to embrace Agriculture Education as well enhance projects monitoring and implementation if it is to achieve her development goals.

lorea

He has commended Uganda for her impressive plans saying the only problem underlies in implementing them, before requesting developing countries not to rely on donor support.

“Uganda has got good plans but implementation is the major problem. Let the country focus on Agriculture, education and enhance monitoring. People themselves should monitor their various projects, “Park advised.

“Development aid cannot help developing countries to develop, it just facilitates. Let the mind-set change, they have to develop themselves  and this will help Uganda to take off on a right direction,” he added.

Park made the remarks at Protea Hotel Kampala, on Saturday while awarding Ugandan villages for their development initiatives by South Korea under Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and National Saemaul Undong Competition (SMU).

This year’s Grand Prize and Ambassadors award of Shs10 million was awarded to Busanza Village in Kyenjojo Village for development efforts to increase incomes of residents which included making fish ponds and planting pineapples, building 40 Smart Homes ,maintaining 6 community wells among others.

Other communities; Kiboha Village (Kabarole District 2nd ,7M), Naguru Village (Kampala 3rd ,3.5M) ,Bukirya (4th / 2,450,000 Ugx / Sirongko District), Ogwang Apur (5th / 1,750,000 Ugx / Oyam District), Ibu (6th / 1,750,000 Ugx / Oyam District) and Rukungiri (7th / 1,050,000 Ugx / Rukungiri District), also  received awards from the South Korea government under the National Saemaul Undong Competition initiative for supporting self-driven development strategies.

A growing number of countries around the globe are embracing the SMU as a role model for sustainable development. In Africa alone, SMU villages have been established in Uganda, Tanzania, Madagascar, DR Congo, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire.

Gov’t moves to regularize elections of army, youth, workers MPs

Government has introduced a proposed legislation intended to regularize the procedure for the election of special interest groups in Parliament.

mushe

The Attorney General, Hon. Fred Ruhindi said that the Parliamentary Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2015 seeks to prescribe the procedure for elections of representatives of the army, youth, workers and persons with disabilities.

Government moved the Bill in response to a September 2015 Constitutional Court ruling declaring regulations made by the Minister on the elections of youth, army and workers MP void since they were not made by Parliament as required by the Constitution.

The Parliamentary Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2015 provides the procedures to be followed by youth councils to elect youth MPs; the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces Council to elect army representatives; the National Organization of Trade Unions and Confederation of Free Trade Unions for workers MPs.

Members were however against the introduction of the Parliamentary Elections (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2015 saying there was need to respect separation of powers between Parliament and the Judiciary considering that the Attorney General had filed a Notice of Appeal to the Constitutional Court.

Hon. Sam Otada  said since the Minister has not withdrawn the Notice of Appeal, it means the ruling by the Constitutional Court stands.

Hon. Wilfred Niwagaba (Ndorwa East) said it would be an abuse of the judicial arm of government for Parliament to consider the Bill since the issue is still before court.

He recommended that Parliament stays consideration of the Bill until the issue is finalized by the courts.

The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, advised legislators to raise their objections to the Bill with the Committee on Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, to which it was committed for consideration.

Meanwhile Parliament on Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015 passed a motion to retain special interest groups in the House, as required by the Constitution.

The Constitution provides that representation of district women, youth, army, workers and Persons with Disabilities shall be reviewed ten years after the commencement of the 1995 Constitution and every five years thereafter, with a view of retaining, increasing or abolishing them.

Why Women Moan & Scream In Bed

Why do some women literally scream and shout in bed?

sexing

Guys, maybe you think that she’s moaning and screaming because you’re such a great lover – you’re pounding away inside her, she’s having a mind-blowing orgasm. Sorry, think again. That’s not why women are so noisy in bed, according to the findings of a British study. Over 85 percent of women make lots of noise simply to boost their partner’s sex self-esteem, the study found.

The researchers asked over 70 heterosexual women whether they were more likely to reach orgasm during masturbation, foreplay, or intercourse. They also wanted to know how noisy the women were during these different sexual activities and the reasons why.

All of the women in the study said they made noise in bed, whether it was screaming out their partner’s name, telling him to go faster or harder, or moaning with pleasure. But the researchers were in for a surprise when they compared how noisy women were when they reached orgasm.

The women were more likely to climax during foreplay – like when their partner gave them oral sex – compared to intercourse. And it wasn’t when they were coming that they were most likely to make noise.

STROKING HIS EGO

When it comes to moaning and screaming, they made a lot more noise when they were having sex, right before and during their partner’s orgasm. Yes, the reason most women make noise in bed is to turn on their partner. In fact, almost 80 percent said they make noise even when they know there’s no chance they’re going to reach orgasm themselves.

All that hollering is mainly to stroke their guy’s ego. It doesn’t necessarily mean a girl’s in ecstasy. In fact, it could mean just the opposite. Women also say that moans and screams are one way to hurry sex along when you’re not particularly enjoying it.

Yup, women can and do use their voice to control how their guy feels during sex and when he climaxes, the researchers conclude. And why do they do it? To ‘manipulate male behavior to their advantage’.

Boosting her guy’s sex self-esteem by making lots of noise could help strengthen the bond between a woman and her partner, the researchers hypothesise. But there’s also the advantage of speeding up a guy’s orgasm if she’s in pain, just plain bored, or ready to roll over and go to sleep.

SUBTLE SIGNS

So guys, if you really want to please her, don’t go by the big performance, look for the subtle signs of ecstasy. And girls, nice of you to cheer him on like that, but don’t forget to show and tell what really makes you go wild.

Vaginal odour is a very common problem that most women have to deal with at least once or twice in their life.

Vaginal odour can be due to a number of reasons, such as bacterial growth, yeast infections, poor hygiene, hormonal changes, and sexually transmitted diseases.

If the problem is due to infection, there may be symptoms like redness, itching, burning and irritation in the vaginal area. A fishy odour down there, in particular, is caused by bacterial vaginosis.

No matter what the reason, vaginal odour can be very embarrassing. There are many natural remedies to help treat vaginal odour.

Here are the top 10 ways to get rid of vaginal odor.

  1. Apple Cider Vinegar

Due to its antibacterial and antiseptic properties, apple cider vinegar can be used to fight vaginal odor. In fact, taking a bath with apple cider vinegar is one of the simplest ways to get rid of the bad odor. This will help fight off the toxins and bacteria that cause vaginal odor. It will also help restore the acidic quality of the vaginal flora.

  • Mix two cups of apple cider vinegar in warm bath water. Soak in it for about 20 minutes. Follow this remedy several times a week to get quick results.
  • You can also drink a glass of water mixed with one or two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar daily.
  1. Baking Soda

Baking soda is another ingredient that can be used to balance the pH level in your body. When the pH level is in balance, the problem of vaginal odor will dissipate.

  1. Add one-half cup of baking soda to your bathwater.
  2. Soak your lower body in it for about 20 minutes.
  3. Dry yourself thoroughly with a clean towel. This remedy will help fight a yeast infection and can help get rid of odor quickly.
  4. Yogurt

Another good ingredient that can be used to treat vaginal odor is yogurt. Yogurt is rich in lactobacillus bacteria, which help fight candida infection (one of the most common causes of vaginal odor) and restore the normal vaginal pH level. Once the pH level is balanced, the vaginal odor will be gone.

  • Eat two cups of unsweetened, plain yogurt daily. You can also take probiotic supplements.
  • Another option is to soak a tampon in plain yogurt and insert it into your body. Leave it in for a few hours, and rinse the area thoroughly after removing the tampon.
  1. White Vinegar

White vinegar has the power to neutralize odors by breaking down odor proteins. A white vinegar rinse will help eliminate vaginal odor. It will also help restore pH levels in the vagina.

  1. Mix one-half cup each of white vinegar and salt in lukewarm bath water.
  2. Soak in it for a few minutes.
  3. Follow this remedy several times a week.
  4. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil contains strong antifungal as well as antiseptic properties, and thus it can be used to get rid of unpleasant vaginal odor. It will help get rid of bacteria that are contributing to the problem.

  • Add three drops of tea tree oil to a cup of water. Use this solution to rinse the affected area daily or several times a week.
  • Alternatively, dip a tampon in olive oil and then put a little tea tree oil on it. Insert the tampon and leave it in for at least one hour. Do this several times a week.
  1. Garlic

Garlic is a natural antibiotic that can be great for dealing with vaginal infections as well as vaginal odor. The antifungal properties present in garlic will help fight a yeast infection and help your body get rid of bad bacteria.

  • Eat garlic in raw or cooked form on a daily basis. You can eat one or two raw garlic cloves on an empty stomach with a glass of warm water. You can also add garlic cloves or its paste to your dishes and salads.
  • Another option is to put a piece of garlic in the vagina for an hour or two. Do this daily or a few times a week until you get rid of the problem.
  1. Fenugreek

Fenugreek is highly beneficial for women. When consumed on a regular basis, it helps balance the hormones and promotes regular menstrual cycles.

  • Soak one or two teaspoons of fenugreek seeds in one cup of water before going to bed. The next morning, strain out the seeds and drink the water on an empty stomach.
  • You can also use fenugreek seeds to make herbal tea. To prepare this tea, boil one teaspoon of fenugreek seeds in a cup of water. Strain and drink it two times a day.

Note: Fenugreek can cause diarrhea and skin irritation. If you experience these effects, discontinue use of this remedy.

  1. Indian Gooseberry

Indian gooseberry, also known as amla, can be used to get rid of unpleasant vaginal odor. It is a kind of natural blood purifier and organic cleanser, hence it can control the infection that causes vaginal odor.

At the same time, this natural ingredient can also be used to control problematic leucorrhoea (thick vaginal discharge).

Simply eat Indian gooseberry daily, either raw or in other forms like pickles, amla powder, juice and so on.

  1. Neem

Due to its antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties, neem or Indian lilac can also be used to fight vaginal infections and get rid of vaginal odors.

Boil a handful of neem leaves in a pan of water.

Strain and allow it to cool.

Use this solution to rinse the vaginal area daily for a few days or a week.

  1. Citrus Fruits

Citrus foods can also help your body fight infections more effectively and prevent vaginal odor. Citrus foods are rich in vitamin C, an immune booster, and they can also help remove harmful toxins present in the body.

A strong immune system will allow your body to fight off the harmful bacteria that cause vaginal odor. These fruits will also help fight urinary tract infections.

Simply eat fruits such as grapes, oranges, sweet lime, lemons, cranberries, grapefruits, pineapples and so on.

Additional Tips

Drink plenty of water throughout the day to flush out toxins and harmful bacteria from the body. It will also help ward off a variety of health issues.

Avoid refined carbohydrates, caffeine and sugary drinks; sugar stimulates yeast production.

Check for possible signs of infection that could be causing this problem.

Maintain proper personal hygiene.

Wear 100 percent cotton panties that allow air circulation and help keep the vulva ventilated, thus avoiding excessive perspiration.

Change pads, tampons, and panty-liners frequently.

Avoid using scented products down there as they may contribute to unbalanced vaginal pH.

If the problem mostly occurs after intercourse then simply wash the vagina with mild soap and water after sex.

Practice safe sex.

At times, women simply do not like the normal vaginal odor caused by vaginal secretions. However, there is nothing bad about it, you just need to respect your body and embrace your natural odor.If the problem is severe or does not get better with the home remedies then it is suggested to consult a doctor.

Sepp Blatter was admitted to hospital after suffering an “emotional breakdown” following the criminal and ethics action opened against him, it emerged on Wednesday.

Blatter, the suspended Fifa president, admitted to hospital in Zurich on Friday for checks on what was described initially as “stress” but is now expected to keep him under medical supervision until Monday. Sources close to the Swiss, 79, said that he had suffered a “small emotional breakdown”.

His adviser, Klaus Stoehlker, said: “He is in hospital but he has just been told to relax for a few days and he will be back to work on Tuesday. His most important message is that he is fully preparing himself to go ahead with his fight against his 90-day suspension.”

Stoehlker added that Blatter said he had no involvement in the scandal to have engulfed Germany’s 2006 World Cup bid, which has led to the resignation of its football association president, Wolfgang Niersbach.

Germany’s bid leaders, including Niersbach and Franz Beckenbauer, have been accused of using €6.7 million (£4.73 million) to set up a slush fund to buy votes. They have denied any wrongdoing as did yesterday the disgraced former Fifa vice-president Jack Warner following the emergence of a document appearing to link him with the scandal.

“I have never, ever had any agreement of any kind with anyone on Germany’s hosting of the 2006 World Cup,” Warner wrote in an email to German broadcaster Sport 1. “I have said a thousand times that I have no intention of talking or writing to anyone about my 30 years sojourn in the Fifa. Nor do I have no intention [sic] of joining the international media circus whose only objective seems to be demean and denigrate.”

Franz Beckenbauer denies wrongdoing in the 2006 World Cup bid

It has been claimed that Warner had an account called ‘LOC [Local Organising Committee] Germany 2006 Limited’, while the German FA (DFB) confirmed reports of a draft agreement with Warner, signed in part by Beckenbauer, who was chairman of the 2006 World Cup organising committee. The draft contract is said to have offered a lucrative friendly against Germany, but no cash. It remains unclear whether the document was used.

Another former Fifa vice-president, Eugenio Figueredo, agreed yesterday to be extradited from Switzerland to his native Uruguay to face corruption charges.

The Swiss Federal Office of Justice had approved Figueredo’s extradition to the United States in September, something against which he appealed, although he could still be forced to travel there.

Figueredo is accused of having taken bribes worth millions in connection with the award of broadcast rights.
