Besigye yesterday campaigned in Lira district where he attracted mammoth crowds. As Uganda move closer to the Election Day, 18th February, Besigye’s crowds are doubling, tripling, quadrupling, et cetera.
At Besigye rally in Mbarara last week, a number of his supporters argued that it was his best attended rally but it seems Lira overtook Mbarara in numbers.
Besigye, a four times presidential candidate has won hearts of masses, beating his erstwhile enemy president Museveni in urban areas.
The overflow of crowds at Besigye’s rallies in the recent days signifies his never-ending popularity.
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate noted that the procession to The Lira Mayor’s Garden his was “not a political rally; it is a parade to celebrate the most corrupt regime in Uganda’s history.”
But can crowds translate into votes? The question remains unanswered.
