UPDF Athletics Team Misses Gold In EAC Military Games

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) athletics team missed out on Gold medals in the 11th East African Community Military Games and Cultural Events (EAC) taking place in the Burundian capital Bujumbura.
In the Cross-Country race both men and women, UPDF emerged the second runners’ up and managed to win a bronze medal in the10 kilometers Cross Country race and two silver medals, respectively.
The winners included Corporal (Cpl) Rebeca Cheptegei who was defeated by Kenya’s Gold medalist, Cpl. Mercy Njoroge, and Lance Cpl. Ezekiel Chepkorom, respectively.
Brig-General Salvator Nahimana, Burundi’s Defence Liaison Officer and Chair of Defence Liaison Officers of EAC Secretariat on behalf of the Burundi Chief of Defence Forces in his closing remarks congratulated the EAC Member States and organizers for enabling the success of the event.
‘’The competition has brought the East African Community people closer and showed the spirit
of togetherness among the participating countries through sports’’, he
said.
Other countries that took part in the games that kicked off on 24th -6th September, 2017, include; Democratic Republic of Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, among others.
