Kasese Police Arrests Two Men With Ivory Worth UGX9.6M

Police in Kasese District on Friday arrested two people for being in possession of 24 kilogrammes of Ivory worth Shs9, 600,000 million.

The suspects were arrested in Kasese district by the police flying squad in an operation against poachers and ivory smugglers.

According to police in the area, since this year begun they have handled four cases related to illegal possession of ivory.

Area Police say such cases are on high increase due to the proximity of Kasese district to Queen Elizabeth national park, and also DR Congo which they suspect dealers in Uganda collaborate with colleagues in Congo to this business.

Meanwhile, three other suspects are reported to be on the run, and police is stilling hunting for them as they prepare to charge sheets against the ones already in custody.
